Share your fav recipe, eat cake & learn through discussion

    books for cooks front.jpg

If your like most home cooks, you'll agree sharing a recipe is very rewarding.

Last month this event brought together gourmets in a "chilled-out environments where food enthusiasts share tips on perfecting their cooking skills."

Books for cooks is opening it's kitchen, exclusively for Tastourians for this very special event.

    How does it work?

Before the swap, you will be asked to submit your recipe, provide an insight into you, as a cook,  and ask your burning cooking questions.

The event is guided by a professionally trained chef, who will encourage discussion and provide useful insights.  Each guest to contribute whilst indulging in glorious cakes and teas and passionate conversation.

An e-book will be sent to attendees via email after the swap.

    What recipe to swap?
It's up to you!  Bring and oldie but a goodie or the one you throw together using what's left in the fridge.  The only requirements are that it's a recipe you have tried and think others will enjoy making.

Do I have to be a fantastic cook?

Absolutely not!  'There are some serious cooks in the group where culinary kungfu is a religion!' However, as long as you like to cook and want to share ideas with others you are most welcomed!

    What's A Tastour Tease?
    Written by
    Sarah, Tastourian

Last Tuesday, I spent the evening meeting and talking to grapes…am I crazy? Was I trolleyed?!

Well, definitely not nuts, nor were the 50 others who were there.

It was Tastour’s monthly social drinks - as we went in, we all chose a grape personality and got a sticker.  I plumped for ‘Pinot Grigio - I'm TRENDY - I'm in all the bars, not always cheap, but I am EASY…drinking’.  It was hilarious! I met so many grape people!!!  I also met up with a few old friends in the guise of Malbec ‘Rich and chococately, I am every girl’s dream’ and Marsanne ‘Some consider me to be the finest in the world.  Learning about the grape styles was fun. I even met my match - I mean, I met a chap who’d also chosen Pinot Grigio.  Did this mean we were soul-mates – Mr and Miss Pinot Grigio - both trendy and playful?! We’ll see!

Although it was a social drinks night, there was also a mini-wine tasting – rather aptly named a Tastour Tease! So not just a great night with some fun people, but I learned something as well!  At the start of the evening, in small groups, you were guided through your first glass of wine – this glass of wine was free when you arrived. We learnt a few tricks of trade about aromas.  The guide said that we’ll be tackling a different subject every month.  But it’s whet my appetite – they’re running a Champagne tasting on 24th April and I’m going to sign up tonight.  The tasting was only 5 minutes, so there was plenty of time to get mingling, buy some more wine at the bar and test out my new-found smelling skills!  All in all, a grape night!!

“ Absolutely fantastic. Terrific idea and very well presented. Lots of great and interesting people. ”

    • £45 Shepherd's Bush

Join us for an exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ visit just for Tastourians, led by the founder of Sipsmith, Sam Galsworthy.

Sipsmith has crept onto the London bar scene and is causing a storm with the city’s top bar-tenders and mixologists! Both the gin and vodka have also won gold medals at the 2009 ‘Gin Masters’ and ‘Vodka Masters’ award ceremonies.

    On the tour between 5 – 7pm, you’ll…

    • Meet Prudence, the first copper still to launch in London since 1820

    • Discover the botanicals used to make Sipsmith Gin (Macedonian juniper berries, Spanish orange peel, Chinese cassia bark to name just a few!)

    • Learn about the history of gin and the very English tradition of gin & tonic

    • Have a guided tasting of Sipsmith Gin and Vodka

    • Enjoy a special Sipsmith cocktail: In the bar at The Dorchester, a Sipsmith G&T costs £12.94!

    • Tuck into some cheese and charcuterie

    • Receive a free bottle of Sipsmith Gin or Vodka (not widely available to purchase, retails at £23 - £28. If you don’t think you’ll get through a bottle, it makes a wonderful present!)

    Sipsmith’s awards & reviews

“Made in London, in a traditional handcrafted copper still, by three friends who passionately put quality before quantity, this is a drink with soul and substance” (Richard Reed, Style magazine)

“It’s a new brand that draws on the oldest traditions of gin-making. A product that’s sophisticated, yet neighbourly, made with the old-fashioned, yet thoroughly modern concept of hand-crafting something fine, and supporting local produce and producers” (Claire Doble, The London Blog)

“Stunning spirits that are smooth, full of charater and have true intensity of flavour” (The Drink Shop.com)

Dinner & Cocktails after the tour

After the Sipsmith tour, if Tastourians fancy it, we will be heading to Tatra, a fantastic Polish restaurant on Goldhawk Road, for dinner and cocktails.

Tatra has modern Polish and East European cuisine with a huge selection of vodkas, including their excellent home-made flavoured vodkas. The chef/owner used to be the head chef at Wodka in Kensington, before deciding that he wanted to do it bigger, better and for less money!

For more info about Tatra, check out www.tatrarestaurant.co.uk
